Silver plated tray chalkboard

Hey friends!

I love turning old vintage finds into new usable items. This silver tray was in desperate need of a polish. I don't have a before picture. My mom used some silver polish and elbow grease to shine this gorgeous tray up. I don't know about you, but I rarely have an occasion when I would use a silver tray. So I decided to make it a little more modern.

I taped the tray and painted it with chalkboard paint. Now it can be used as a tray or a decorative accent in a kitchen!

New message boards

Hello!

I have made some more message boards for upcoming shows this summer and I wanted to share them with you!

This first one has chevron fabric on the magnetic side and chalkboard paint on the other. This would be a great addition to any office!

 

This message board turned out better than I expected! I bought an old quilt top at the Christie antique show this past may. I knew I wanted to use the fabric on one of my boards. I love the cottage feel it gives off.

 

This next board is made out of an old window frame I bought at the aberfoyle antique show. I loved the patina on this window frame. I added a floral fabric which gives off such a country feel!

 

This next frame is a custom piece for a friend. She wanted a chalkboard and magnetic board for her office.

 

This last piece is fun and traditional all at the same time. I love that the fabric is off center.

Another mint garden chair!

Happy Father's Day! 

On this special day I am working on projects in the beautiful sun and reminiscing on how my dad would help me out or give me advice on how I should proceed with a project. 

Last year I painted a chair mint and loved it. I have a chair that is too rough to use. The seat is split. However it is perfect for a garden. I can see a beautiful flower pot on it. I gave it a coat if ASCP mint paint that I mixed myself. I don't have perfect recipe. I just eye ball it. I use Florence, Antibes green and old white. I didn't wax it as it hopefully will be a wonderful accent to someone's garden! Pieces of furniture don't need to be waxed if they are outside with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

DIY Message center

Hello friends!

I recently went to the Christie Antique Show. It is my favourite show in Ontario! I bought this window frame and piece of tin at the show. It was pure happy coincidence that the tin fit into the frame! I just had to trim the one side a bit. I was elated and knew I could make the other side a chalkboard. Have a look!

Refinished East Lake chair

Hello friends!

My mother has had this old east lake chair in her basement for awhile. I have always wanted to refinish it but have been to scared to tackle it. I never wanted to destroy a nice chair, but once the veneer was coming off in places I knew I couldn't make it worse. I decided I would paint it as I said the veneer was coming off in places.  Here it is before I did anything. The maroon crush velvet fabric definitely date this piece.

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris grey followed by a coat of ASCP country grey. I used ASCP clear wax to provide a durability to this piece. I used fabric I bought last year in michigan. 

I then had to cover up my staples with braid. I tried to closely match my colour of grey in the fabric to the braid colour. This isn't an easy task as there are so many different shade and undertones to grey. 

Anyways here is my first reupholstered chair!

A vintage Disney nursery for my nephew

Happy weekend friends! 

I hope you are all enjoying your spring weather that has finally started to appear. Last week I gave you a sneak peak at my Nephews nursery. The theme started with the vintage map of Walt Disney world my sister purchased at a flea market a couple of years ago. She got it framed and mounted in red. It was a great piece as there are so many different colours to pull from it. We repurposed furniture her husband and her had in their extra bedroom and office by painting them. I painted a dresser and bedside table in ASCP's Emperors silk and finished with a clear wax. These two pieces turned out great as the colour really pops against the grey walls. The colour of the walls is CIL zeppelin from Home Depot. The change table is an old washstand my mom had got from my grandfather when he owned an antique store. He had refinished it thirty or more years ago. I painted the bottom in ASCP's old white and kept my grandfathers finish on the top. My sister added some accents from IKEA in the baskets and children's coat rack.

A Disney themed nursery

My sister recently had a baby boy. I had the opportunity to help her decorate his nursery. She wanted a retro Disney theme nursery. A couple of years ago she had picked up a map of Walt Disney World from the 70's. It is fantastic and had a range of colours in it. Here is a sneak peek of a gallery wall I created for the room. The blank space in the middle will be her boys initial. She was keeping it a secret until he was born. 

Plant Stand Makeover

Hey Friends!
I acquired this plant stand a year ago and couldn't decide to paint or refinish it. I delayed on it for a long time and finally decided I didn't want to have to strip the spiral. I am lazy and didn't want all the work it entailed. So I decided on painting! First thing I had to do was secure the base. This piece is old and the base was wobbly. I drilled four holes in the bottom and then put some screws in to hold it in place. I also used glue for added support.

I then sanded the glue and started to paint. I put one coat of  Paloma ASCP  and then one coat of Old White ASCP. I then sanded and distressed the piece. I finished it off with clear wax.

Here it is!

 

Secretariat Makeover

Hello friends! This long weekend I decided to makeover this ugly secretariat into a beautiful piece. I love the size and function of it. It is perfect for a small home office to put your laptop and some files in. It can be closed up so you don't have to see any clutter. This is also a great piece for students in university or college. It is small and has lots of storage for their rooms.

Here is after I painted it. I used Annie Sloan Chalk paint in old white for the inside and the accent. I used Paloma for the desk.

 

Here is the inside all painted. I finished it off with ASCP's clear wax. Those little cubby holes were a tough to paint!

New summer earrings

Yard Sale finds: Best Deal Ever

I went out to a few yard sales this past weekend and was not finding much. I stumbled upon a sale that had a blanket with miscellaneous items on it at the end of the driveway. A sign said everything on the blanket was FREE! On this blanket I found this plastic folder full of Highlights magazines from the 1970's. I didn't think twice before taking it home with me.

They are all in immaculate condition. As a Canadian these are part of my childhood memories. I am so pleased with this find!

Old window transformations

I recently found this old single window in my parents garage. We were doing some spring clean up and found it at the back of the garage. I instantly knew I wanted to make it into a chalkboard. I then picked up this triple pane window for $5 bucks. The middle piece of glass was missing but I knew I could make it lovely.

I caulked around the back of the glass as it was really loose and rattling.

After: I painted the glass with chalkboard paint. The middle section I made into a magnetic message board and covered it with fabric.

After: chalkboard paint and some white for the trim. 

New magnetic message boards for summer

Hey Friends!
Today I am posting all my new Magnetic Message boards and chalkboards that I have made. I am gearing up for the summer season of Craft/vendor shows and markets. I love the summer and all the fun people I meet through these shows. I will be at the Southampton Craft show on Thursday, July 4th. It is an amazing show with lots of vendors! I highly recommend this show if you are near Southampton, Ontario next Thursday!
Here is my new Favourite mini Chalkboard. It is painted with Provence ASCP and finished with Clear Wax.

These next Magnetic Message boards are a pair. I used this really interesting handwritten fabric.

This next chevron fabric magnetic message board is painted with Graphite ASCP and finished with clear wax. This is my favourite out of all the new message boards!

Lastly I made another chevron message board as it is so popular currently. I made this one out of a grey fabric that matches the Graphite ASCP on the frame.

Happy Canada Day! Pet bandannas

Happy Canada day!

Today is a day we proudly wear red and white! Even our furry friends. My mother sews pet bandannas and sells them. They are a cute way to dress up your pooch without having them in costume. My dog loves her bandanna and gets upset when I take it off to wash. My mother makes them so there is a loop that the collar slides through. This way it isn't tied on and the dog doesn't feel it. The dog doesn't feel any difference with the bandanna than with just a collar.
